Chioma Ude, founder of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), has announced a historic milestone: AFRIFF is the first African film festival to be represented on the official “Goes to Cannes” platform at the Marché du Film.
Speaking at the event, Ude called the moment “monumental not only for AFRIFF but for the continent of Africa as a whole.” She highlighted that for 16 years, AFRIFF has remained committed to elevating African storytelling through training, industry development, and the showcasing of bold, original voices.
“What began as a vision to create space for African cinema has grown into a platform that nurtures talent, builds careers, and connects our stories to the world,” Ude said.
She expressed pride in helping open the door to greater international co‑productions, wider global distribution, and deeper creative exchange between Africa and the rest of the world.
Ude acknowledged five selected filmmakers who developed their projects with intention and earned their place at Cannes. She thanked the Marché du Film for the opportunity and everyone who believes in the power of African stories.
“We are only just beginning,” Ude concluded. AFRIFF has previously trained over 10,000 young adults and launched a film market to connect African creators with global investors.
