Banky Wellington just had a meeting that went far beyond pleasantries. The singer, actor, and politician sat down with Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Lateef Kayode Are, at the Nigerian Embassy.
He opened with a John Maxwell quote: “If you’re always at the head of the class, you’re in the wrong class.” That set the tone for a conversation about real impact, not just titles.
Banky was joined by his friend and brother, Olugbenga Gb. Together, they engaged the Ambassador in discussions spanning policy, diplomacy, entrepreneurship, and youth development. The focus? Unlocking Africa’s future through innovation and collaboration.
“What I value most about moments like these is the opportunity for leaders from government, business, and civil society to come together with a shared desire to solve meaningful problems,” Banky shared on social media.
The conversation tackled real issues—how influence can be weaponised for good, how leaders can leave communities better than they found them, and how collaboration across sectors is non-negotiable.
Banky closed with a prayer: “That we would all live lives of significance… not simply by occupying positions of influence, but by using whatever influence we’ve been given to leave people, communities, and nations better than we found them.”
