When Obehi Imarenezor stepped onto the Croisette days ago, she wasn’t just another festival-goer soaking in the Riviera glamour. She arrived at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity with a mission: to crack open doors that have stayed shut for too long — and she arrived fully funded and strategically positioned by one of the industry’s most respected diversity organisations.

Imarenezor, a digital producer and host known for her work with Fashion Bomb Daily and Amplify Africa, earned her spot as a 2026 Ambassador for the Cannes Can: Diversity Collective (CC:DC) after a highly competitive selection process that drew over 450 applicants.

The CC:DC, founded in 2017 by creative advocate Adrianne C. Smith, is a non-profit dedicated to building pathways for underrepresented talent in the advertising, marketing, and creative industries. Rather than merely discussing representation, the organisation activates it — most visibly through Inkwell Beach Cannes, the official diversity, equity and inclusion hub at the festival.

The fellowship is a fully funded, all-expenses-paid ticket to one of the most expensive and exclusive gatherings in the world, where a festival pass alone can run into thousands of dollars. For Imarenezor, the investment removes the financial barriers that keep many talented creators of colour from even entering the room.

“This isn’t just about being seen,” she said, reflecting on the experience. “It’s about making sure the rooms where decisions get made actually look like the world we live in.”

And those rooms were open. Throughout the week, Imarenezor moved between high-level networking sessions, pitching her creative services directly to C-suite executives, brand marketers, and agency heads. Each handshake carried the potential for a deal, a collaboration, or a mentorship that could reshape her trajectory.

Beyond the business cards, the festival served as a content engine. Operating from the Inkwell Beach hub, she captured behind-the-scenes stories, conducted high-profile interviews, and showcased her signature style — including a custom Ankara ensemble that turned heads along the marina. For a digital strategist and internet personality, the footage alone is portfolio gold, amplifying her footprint far beyond the French Riviera.

Crucially, the ambassadorship carries a stamp of external validation. To be selected from over 450 global applicants by the CC:DC positions, Imarenezor, not simply as a social media creator, but as a verified future leader in the media landscape. It elevates her brand from regional recognition to international credibility, endorsed by an organisation with a track record of championing diverse talent.

The five-day festival was a career accelerator wrapped in a mission. And she left with more than business cards; she left with a clearer path forward for the voices she represents, and the institutional backing to walk it.
