Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan says a new chapter is unfolding for Oyo’s creative and rural economy as Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the long-awaited reconstruction of the 23‑kilometre Okaka–Igbojaye–KAP Village Road.
The road, which links Okaka, Otu, Igbojaye, Komu, and the landmark KAP Film Village & Resort, is more than an infrastructure upgrade — it’s a lifeline for farmers, filmmakers, and local communities.
Afolayan, who opened the KAP Film Village and Resort in April 2025, hailed the project as proof that the promise of rural revitalization through creativity is coming alive.
With the road construction, smoother access will now be available for film production crews, students, tourists, and business operators. The route is also set to boost school attendance, agricultural trade, and the flow of goods and services across Itesiwaju Local Government Area.
“This corridor is not just asphalt; it’s a corridor of possibility,” Afolayan said, noting that the development ensures KAP Village can host more local and international productions, residencies, and training programs.
Boosting Nollywood’s Global Reach
The reconstruction also has implications far beyond Oyo State. Easier access to the KAP Film Village positions the facility as a magnet for international filmmakers and cultural tourists, strengthening Nollywood’s footprint in the global film market. With world-class facilities and now reliable infrastructure, the village is primed to attract Netflix-level productions, co-productions with Hollywood, and cross-continental storytelling initiatives.
Governor Makinde’s decision to pair infrastructure development with culture is being described as a strategic masterstroke, aligning with Nigeria’s broader vision to diversify the economy through film, tourism, and the arts.
The KAP Film Village, with its serene setting and state-of-the-art amenities, is on track to become a model for rural-based creative campuses in Africa — and the newly approved road is the pathway to unlocking that future.
Kap Group extended special thanks to Governor Makinde for his dedication to the development of Oyo State.
