The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Thursday hosted a high-level ceremony in Marina that brought together Lagos State officials, capital-market leaders, fashion entrepreneurs, and global entertainer Ciara Wilson to advance new financing pathways for Nigeria’s creative economy.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu lauded NGX for spotlighting culture as an engine of growth. “Lagos stands at the forefront of Africa’s creative renaissance, a city where innovation, culture, and enterprise intersect,” he said. “By deepening linkages with the capital market through institutions like the NGX Group, we can unlock financing that empowers creative entrepreneurs to scale sustainably and compete globally.”
Wilson, in Lagos for fashion-week engagements, praised the city’s momentum. “It’s amazing to see Lagos and Nigeria leveling up, not just creatively, but economically,” she said. “Connecting that creativity to investment and structure is how you build something truly global and sustainable.”

Tokunbo Akerele, Chairman of Style House Files and Lagos Fashion Week, said the collaboration between NGX and the fashion ecosystem signals investor confidence. “Engaging platforms like the Exchange helps amplify the message that the creative economy is an engine for growth, investment and social impact,” he noted.
Executives and policymakers emphasized that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards will underpin capital formation for the sector, arguing that sustainability enhances credibility, attracts long-term funding, and strengthens global competitiveness.

The event coincided with the 15th edition of Lagos Fashion Week, reinforcing the administration’s pledge to expand access to finance, invest in modern infrastructure and enact enabling policies for film, fashion, music and design.
By linking storytellers to structured capital, NGX and the Lagos State Government are positioning Lagos as Africa’s investment gateway for the creative economy—where culture meets capital to unlock inclusive, sustainable growth.
