Cameroonian content creator Afam has aimed at South Africa and Ghana over what she describes as their jealousy toward Nigeria’s “Giant of Africa” title, warning them to respect the label.
In a video shared on her social media platforms, Afam questioned why other African countries are contesting a title she said Nigeria has earned through influence and scale.
“Why is every African country in Africa fighting over the title the Giants of Africa, and nobody is fighting that title more than South Africans?” she asked. “South Africa is a rainbow nation. Cameroon is Africa in nature. Ghana is a gat away from Africa. But why is everybody jealous about the Giants of Africa?”
She argued that Nigeria’s claim to the title does not mean the country is perfect.
“Nigeria being called the Giant of Africa doesn’t mean Nigeria is doing everything perfectly, but we all know they are the first when it comes to influence. Entertainment, population, economy, and so many other things,” she said.
Afam called for mutual respect among African nations and their respective titles.
“Let’s try to respect each other’s titles and maintain them. Come on, why are they jealous?” she said.
Her remarks add to a long-running regional debate over Nigeria’s status on the continent. Critics of the title point to challenges in governance and development, while supporters cite Nigeria’s population, economic output, entertainment exports and diplomatic weight.
Neither South African nor Ghanaian officials have responded to Afam’s comments. The video continues to circulate online.
