Ayo Edebiri stands alone as ‘The Bear’ snubs co-stars at 2026 Primetime Emmys

The 28-year-old actress secured her fourth consecutive nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Sydney Adamu on FX’s kitchen drama The Bear.

The nod, announced during July’s rollout, continues Edebiri’s historic streak with the show, a run that already includes a previous win in the Supporting Actress category.

But this year’s announcement came with a sting: Edebiri is the only main cast member from The Bear to land an acting nomination.

Voters passed over heavy hitters like Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, leaving the Nigerian US-based star to carry the ensemble’s acting hopes alone heading into the September 14 ceremony at L.A.’s Peacock Theater.

She’ll face fierce competition in her category, going up against Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Jean Smart (Hacks), Elle Fanning (Margo’s Got Money Troubles), and Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback). Meanwhile, veteran Mariska Hargitay takes hosting duties for the evening.

Industry watchers are already questioning whether the acting snubs will hurt The Bear’s overall momentum, but Edebiri’s consistent recognition proves her performance remains an undeniable force.

For Nigerian fans tracking diaspora excellence, her nomination is a proud moment—even if she’s walking the red carpet without her kitchen crew.
