Nollywood star, Omowunmi Dada, through her production company Signet Ring Studios, has teamed up with Rixel Studios to attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest single-venue film screening.
Their weapon of choice? The upcoming crime thriller Black Market, which Dada executive-produces, co-produces, and stars in.
The goal is ambitious: pack 50,000 people into Lagos’ historic Tafawa Balewa Square on September 26 for a synchronised public screening. That would shatter the current record of 43,624, set in the Philippines back in 2015. If successful, it wouldn’t just be a trophy for the shelf—it’d be a statement about the sheer scale of Nigerian cinema’s global pull.
Black Market itself is a heavyweight collaboration, bringing together Rixel Studios (led by Nora Awolowo), FilmOne Studios, and Switch Visuals Production. Director Fatimah Binta Gimsay and co-writer Abdul Tijani-Ahmed shot entirely on location in Abeokuta, grounding the film in authentic Nigerian textures.
The ensemble cast reads like a Nollywood dream team: Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Uzor Arukwe, Scarlet Gomez, and Teniola Aladese all feature.
With TBS as the battleground and 50,000 seats to fill, she’s betting that Nigerian audiences are ready to show up and make history.
