A recent incident involving a Gambian-American influencer being denied entry to Nigeria has ignited a fierce online debate, with YouTuber DidiLawren vocally defending the nation’s immigration authorities.
The controversy centers on content creator Mohamet “Swaggy Mo” Mbaye, who was refused entry and deported after arriving for a friend’s wedding without a valid visa.
Mbaye claimed his host had arranged the documentation, but officials could not find approval in their system upon his arrival.
In an episode titled “Mohamet Mbaye Deported From Nigeria For Entering Without A Valid Visa,” DidiLawren strongly criticised the influencer. She praised the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for correctly enforcing the law and slammed Mbaye’s “audacity” to then post videos portraying Nigeria negatively. “How can you go to a country where you don’t have a valid visa? Make it make sense,” she argued, emphasizing that the responsibility for proper documentation lies solely with the traveller.
The incident highlights a broader context of stricter immigration enforcement in Nigeria, following the recent conclusion of a government amnesty program for visa overstays.
DidiLawren’s stance has resonated with many online who support the strict application of rules, while others critique the handling of such cases.
The clash underscores ongoing global conversations about border security, travel preparedness, and national sovereignty.
