Wizkid shatters global barriers, becomes first African artist to hit 20 billion streams worldwide

Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first African artist to surpass 20 billion global streams across all platforms. This landmark achievement underscores his significant impact on the global music scene and the growing influence of Afrobeats worldwide.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, has consistently broken records throughout his career. Notably, his collaboration with Drake on the 2016 hit “One Dance” was the first song to reach one billion streams on Spotify, earning him a place in the Guinness World Records. In January 2025, he became the first African artist to surpass 8 billion streams on Spotify alone.   

This new milestone of 20 billion global streams reflects Wizkid’s widespread appeal and the increasing global appetite for African music. His success has paved the way for other African artists to gain international recognition, contributing to the global proliferation of Afrobeats.
