Nigerian lifestyle influencer Ifedayo Oluwamodupe has sparked a lively conversation after sharing her candid observations about the cultural differences between Ghana and Nigeria — particularly how each country treats strangers.

During her recent stay in Ghana, Oluwamodupe noticed something that initially flattered her, then quickly irritated her. Ghanaians kept stopping her to ask, “Madam, you don’t look Ghanaian. Where are you from?”

“I lost count,” she said. “It got to a point where I was irritated. You people don’t have daily tasks? Don’t have where you’re going? For you to notice a total stranger walking on the streets, that they are not from your country?”

In contrast, she observed that Nigerians operate with a blissful indifference. “In Nigeria, even when we see a Togolese woman selling, we buy and move on with our day. We don’t care where you come from.”

She illustrated her point vividly: “If you are a South African selling amala in Nigeria, we buy the amala from you, eat, and move on. We will never question, ‘As a South African, why are you selling amala in our country?’ We chop your food and go.”

For Oluwamodupe, the difference is clear. Ghanaians are curious. Nigerians are busy. And in Nigeria, nobody has time to ask where you’re from — they just want to buy your goods and get on with their day.

The verdict? Nigerians, she concluded, “don’t really care.” And in this case, she meant it as a compliment.
