TikTok has temporarily blocked Nigerian users from hosting or viewing LIVE streams between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. while it investigates safety concerns.
The restriction, which started over the weekend, displays a “No Access” label during late-night hours.TikTok said the move was “to keep our platform safe and our community protected.”
Reports link the action to a rise in late-night streams with explicit content, with some creators performing for virtual gifts. This clampdown comes after TikTok released enforcement data: In Q2 2025, it banned 49,512 Nigerian LIVE sessions and removed 3.78 million videos for rule violations.
The nightly ban disrupts a prime engagement period for many Nigerian creators who rely on LIVE for audience and income.
Access was restored by Monday, but the incident sparked debate. Creator Peller noted the disruption but downplayed the financial impact on established influencers, citing diverse income streams.
This pause shows the ongoing challenge for platforms to protect users while also supporting creators’ livelihoods.
