Rick Ross has offered a characteristically boss-level explanation for why the rap mogul was spotted flying commercial this week, after images of him in a public airport waiting room ignited a wave of internet jokes.
His private jet, he says, is currently grounded — not by financial trouble, but by a $500,000 Starlink Wi-Fi installation.
“For the ones who wanna know where my jet at, I obviously didn’t get the memo. It’s being updated with Starlink. You know what Starlink is? Yeah, that’s the half-a-million-dollar Wi-Fi,” Ross clarified in a video clip tracked by Complex Music and HotNewHipHop.
The Miami rapper and business mogul, known for aggressive luxury flexes and recent high-profile trolling of other artists’ finances, became an easy target after photos showed him trying to keep a low profile in an airport waiting area. Critics and fans alike questioned why the self-proclaimed “Boss” wasn’t aboard his signature Gulfstream.
Ross explained that the trip was a deliberate choice: a commercial flight to Colombia to join Trick Daddy and Ball Greezy for a party at Escape States. He also made it personal, swatting away the criticism by invoking family loyalty. “If I need to send my jet to pick up my mama, I’ll fly commercial, or I’ll walk. I don’t have a problem with that,” he said.
As for those still laughing at the idea of a hip-hop heavyweight sitting in coach, Ross had a blunt closer: “Stop worrying about what wealthy people do. Flying commercial doesn’t take away from my rich status.” The message is clear — a temporary upgrade on the ground doesn’t mean the sky is falling.
