A light aircraft on a training run made an emergency landing on Mona Vale Golf Club in Australia on Sunday, 17 August, leaving the instructor and student with minor injuries.
The Piper Cherokee came in low over the fairways before touching down hard near the 15th, scattering debris across the grass. Golfers said the plane appeared to be losing height rapidly and sounded as if the engine wasn’t producing power. A club member, Callum Nicholls, and his partner—who is a doctor—gave first aid moments after the aircraft slid to a stop.
Paramedics treated two men in their 50s and transported them to Royal North Shore Hospital, where both were later confirmed to be in a stable condition. Police said the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has taken over the investigation.
The ATSB confirmed the aircraft type and that an instructor and student were on board. Reports of possible engine trouble will form part of the inquiry, but the cause of the forced landing has not yet been determined. Witnesses credited the pilot’s handling for preventing serious injuries.
