Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning when a gunman armed with a rifle opened fire during Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in south Minneapolis, leaving two children dead and at least 15 others injured, officials confirmed.
The attack happened just before 8:30 a.m. during the school’s morning service. Emergency teams rushed victims to nearby hospitals, with seven children reported to be in critical condition.

Police said the shooter died on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His identity and motive have not yet been revealed.
Authorities described the suspect as “a man dressed in black and armed with a rifle.” The city confirmed the “shooter is contained” and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The state Governor Tim Walz deployed state security agencies to assist, while the Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the violence, calling it “horrific.” A reunification center has been set up for families.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump said the FBI had taken over the investigation and urged prayers for the victims.
The shooting comes just a day after another attack near Cristo Rey High School in Minneapolis, which killed one person and wounded six. Two more shootings later that night left two others dead. Police say it is unclear if the incidents are related.
