Omoni Oboli is tired of the “predictable” complaints — and she’s calling everyone out. In a fresh chat with Instablog9ja, the Nollywood powerhouse reminded fans that great movies aren’t about shock endings but about enjoying every juicy scene.
“Hollywood does it too — the hero always wins, the lovers always kiss. It’s not the ending, it’s the ride,” she said.
The ace filmmaker, known for hits like Being Mrs. Elliot and Okafor’s Law, insists that a movie’s power isn’t just in shocking twists but in how well it pulls you along for the ride.
“If the journey is boring, that’s when you start whining about predictability. But when it’s rich, you don’t even notice — you’re glued!” she added.
Oboli didn’t stop there. She threw a subtle brag, saying Nollywood has an overflowing vault of fresh, authentic stories, more than the remake-happy Hollywood.
“We have more original stories than anywhere else, and the world is watching. Sometimes I check YouTube stats and see views from places you’d never expect not just Nigerians abroad, but locals who love our vibe.”
So, next time you sit down for a Nollywood flick, Oboli says: hush the spoiler alert, grab your popcorn, and enjoy the magic, because Nigeria’s stories are far from ordinary, and the world can’t get enough.
