The Naija Food Festival, Africa’s biggest celebration of food and culture, has officially unveiled plans for an ambitious worldwide expansion. The announcement was made at a high-profile press conference held at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, setting the stage for a historic multi-city international tour.
The launch drew a distinguished audience, including Mr. Carlos Rojas-Arbulú, Deputy High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria; Prof. Bobby J. Moroe, Consul-General of South Africa in Lagos; festival founder Mr. Abiola Qasim Oderinde; Guinness World Record-breaking chef Hilda Baci; and representatives from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, the Ministry of Youth Development, and the Presidency.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Oderinde outlined the festival’s vision: “This festival will place Nigerian food, music, and community spirit at the center of the global stage. Picture an experience where every dish tells its own story, every drumbeat calls you to dance, and every smile carries the warmth of Nigeria.”
He emphasized the festival’s national importance, citing endorsements from the Presidency, the Lagos State Government, and the Minister of Youth Development, framing the project as a key driver for both cultural diplomacy and youth empowerment.
The international tour schedule was also confirmed:
Canada: August 9–10, 2025
United States: September 20–21, 2025
London, UK: October 4–5, 2025
South Africa: November 13–14, 2025
Nigeria Grand Finale: Abuja (December 13–14) and Lagos (December 20–21, 2025)
“We are exporting the very best of Nigeria—our flavors, our rhythms, our creativity,” Oderinde added, noting the festival’s strong economic potential. With an expected 120,000 visitors and over 500 vendors, the festival is set to become a platform for local entrepreneurs and a catalyst for business growth.
Mr. Carlos Rojas-Arbulú pledged Canada’s support for the initiative, saying: “Canada treasures its partnership with Nigeria. As Nigerian cuisine gains recognition globally, we are proud to support cultural exchange and collaboration of this magnitude.”
Chef Hilda Baci also shared her excitement: “This is more than food. We are creating a global experience. Beyond empowering the next wave of culinary talent, this will fuel business growth and spotlight authentic Nigerian flavors.”
The festival promises an immersive, multi-sensory celebration, featuring two major concert stages, 25 live performers, and five master chefs.
Mr. Oderinde concluded with a rallying call: “Join us as we celebrate, innovate, and elevate Nigerian cuisine to the place it deserves on the world stage.”
