Media personality Ogechukwu Osih-Oyelude has publicly defended the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following the viral denial of entry of an American content creator, identified as Swaggy Mo, who arrived without a valid visa in mid-December.
Oge praises Nigeria after viral entry denial of creator Swaggy Mo
On her program “Timeout with Ogechukwu Osih-Oyelude,” she praised officers for upholding the rule of law, stating that people who respect Nigeria will “come the right way.”
She strongly criticised the social media outcry supporting the traveller, arguing the narrative was being manipulated and that visitors must “learn to do it right” by securing documentation beforehand.
Osih-Oyelude also rejected the “Detty December” narrative that Nigeria should relax entry rules for holiday visitors, asserting the country is not “begging” anyone to visit. The traveller claimed they were told their visa would be handled on arrival, but were deported after a system failure.
While describing the experience as “dehumanising,” Osih-Oyelude maintained the NIS acted correctly in enforcing immigration laws, highlighting a clash between strict procedure and perceptions of hospitality.
