The 2026 AMVCA red carpet has seen drama, but Laura Ikeji arrived with wings. Not a pair – a single, five‑foot, hand‑painted butterfly wing attached to her shoulder, and the room stopped.
The two‑time nominee did not walk. She flew. And Naija TV’s editorial team has already named her the best dressed of the night – because she paid homage to something deeply Nigerian: our butterflies.
The Lipex Stitches masterpiece
Styled by Fred Ebikeme (@blackkoko_1), the gown is a one‑shoulder Black velvet mermaid number, fitted through the bust and hips with a soft train. The entire side is cut out from underarm to thigh, finished with a dramatic asymmetrical drape completely encrusted in 3D silver and navy crystals and pearls – Lipex’s signature intricate beadwork, running from shoulder to hem, creating a thigh‑high slit.
But the wing is the showstopper. Attached to her left shoulder, it’s painted in vibrant red, white and electric blue, with black veining like a real butterfly. The outer edge carries a black‑and‑white abstract Adire‑like print, dotted with tiny white pearls. It stands easily five feet tall.
Why the Wing Matters
Nigeria is home to roughly 1,828 butterfly species – one of the world’s richest diversities, especially in our southern rainforests. Laura’s wing was not just fashion; it was a love letter to that biodiversity, worn by a “Fire Starter” who refused to blend in.
The Full Armour
Makeup by Sintoglam delivered matte flawless skin, deep smoky eyes, and glossy nude lip. A sleek bob by Favoryt Hair Lounge let the wing dominate. Diamond drops, a tennis bracelet, stacked cocktail rings – and black strappy heels.
Inside a deep red velvet box, shot by Iniobong Akpan (@eyeswideshotng), Laura stood hands‑on‑hips: the black velvet hugged her curves, the crystal side‑slit flashed leg, and the massive wing fanned out behind her like she was about to take flight.
Ikeji and Lipex reminded us that Nigeria’s most beautiful things – like our butterflies – are meant to be celebrated, not caged. And Naija TV agrees: that’s best dressed.
