HBO has officially announced the premiere of MUSIC BOX: WIZKID: LONG LIVE LAGOS, a cinematic deep dive into the life, influence, and global cultural impact of Nigerian superstar Wizkid.
The documentary, part of the prestigious Music Box series created by Bill Simmons, premieres Thursday, December 11, 2025 (9:00–10:25 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO and will stream on HBO Max.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Karam Gill, the documentary explores how Wizkid—one of the most commercially successful African artists of all time—rose from the streets of Lagos to reshape global perception of African music.
The film follows Wizkid as he prepares for his historic, record-setting headline show at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, the first African artist to ever achieve the feat.
LONG LIVE LAGOS traces his journey from humble beginnings to GRAMMY® success, spotlighting how his authenticity, sound, and cultural pride helped propel Afrobeats onto the world stage. It also examines the complex history between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, showing how Wizkid uses music to challenge colonial legacies and reclaim African identity.
Featuring testimonials from fans, collaborators, and cultural historians, the film positions Wizkid’s global rise as both an artistic triumph and a cultural rebellion.
HBO’s latest Music Box chapter confirms it: Wizkid’s Lagos spirit is now a global legacy.
