Ghanaian singer Shatta Wale has been removed from the bill for AfroPlus Fest, due to take place Aug. 31 in Washington, D.C. Festival pages updated their line-ups this week, and posts from music insiders confirmed the late change, with organizers citing “logistical” reasons.
The switch comes as the dancehall act remains entangled in an ongoing cross-border probe involving a yellow Lamborghini Urus taken from his Accra residence in June. Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) seized the SUV following a request from U.S. authorities investigating funds linked to Ghanaian-American fraud offender Nana Kwabena Amuah. EOCO has described Shatta Wale as a person of interest; the artist has publicly denied wrongdoing and says he bought the vehicle legitimately.
Reports in Ghanaian media say the U.S. Department of Justice asked that the car be preserved for possible restitution to victims while cooperation between the FBI and EOCO continues. No charges have been announced against the musician as of this writing.
Shatta Wale had been originally promoted alongside Wizkid, Asake, and Gunna for the D.C. show. Neither the artist nor AfroPlus has offered further detail beyond the stated “logistics” explanation; Shatta Wale has addressed the matter on social media, claiming he refunded the event’s payment.
