Ghanaian YouTuber curses South Africans and Ghanaians for demarketing Nigeria

2 Min Read

A Germany-based Ghanaian YouTuber, G RED, has sparked a wave of reaction online after posting an emotional video in which he laid traditional curses on Ghanaians and South Africans he accused of demarketing Nigeria.

The video was prompted by a travel vlog from a white female foreigner who visited Nigeria for the first time.

According to the creator, the woman had been actively discouraged from making the trip by social media users, many of them from Ghana and South Africa, who warned her that Nigeria was unsafe and undesirable.

She ignored the warnings and travelled anyway. Her video documented a positive experience, showcasing Nigerian culture, food, hospitality and daily life.

That video is what set the YouTuber off.

In his reaction, he blasted the critics directly, accusing them of a systematic campaign to demarket Nigeria across the continent. He argued that the same people who spread negative narratives about Nigeria are the first to consume its music, films and cultural exports.

The tone of the video was raw. He did not hold back. At several points, he invoked curses rooted in tradition against those he said were working to damage Nigeria’s international image.

He also defended Nigeria’s role as a cultural and economic force in Africa, noting the reach of Afrobeats, Nollywood and Nigerian enterprise across the continent.

The clip has since gone viral, drawing thousands of comments. Many Nigerians thanked him for the defence, calling it rare to see a Ghanaian speak that way about their country.

The traveller’s original video continues to circulate.
