Fly Gabon has announced its expansion into Lagos, citing Nigeria’s population of over 200 million and its citizens’ reputation as frequent travellers, entrepreneurs, and corporate workers as key drivers for the decision.
Speaking in an interview on ARISE News, the airline’s Director of Marketing and Communication, Angele Boundono, described Nigeria as a key strategic destination for the carrier.
“Lagos was chosen as a major market because Nigeria has a large population of over 200 million people, and Nigerians are known to be great travellers, entrepreneurs, and corporate workers who move frequently,” Boundono said.
She noted that expanding into Lagos was a logical step to deepen Fly Gabon’s presence in West Africa after building experience in the Central African region and establishing a route to Port Harcourt.
Boundono highlighted Nigeria’s vast market size and strong travel culture as major pull factors, emphasising that African countries are increasingly recognising Nigeria as a commercial powerhouse. “Nigeria is a big market for African countries, and we are now seeing it,” she stated.
The move signals a growing trend among African airlines to prioritise Nigeria as a hub for regional connectivity, driven by its large diaspora, business travel demand, and economic activity.
Fly Gabon joins a list of carriers betting on Nigeria’s aviation sector, which continues to attract foreign investment despite infrastructure challenges.
The new Lagos route is expected to boost trade and travel between Gabon and Nigeria.
