In a powerful display of diplomatic solidarity, French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to significantly “strengthen” France’s security partnership with Nigeria.
The commitment came following a direct conversation with President Bola Tinubu, focused on the ongoing crises in Nigeria’s northern regions.
Publicly declaring the move on X (formerly Twitter), Macron framed it as a response to Tinubu’s request, highlighting Nigeria’s proactive outreach. He stripped away diplomatic ambiguity, explicitly acknowledging the “terrorist threat in the North” and vowing that France stands with Nigeria.
The renewed alliance centres on a three-pillar plan: expressing solidarity with Nigeria’s counter-terror efforts, strengthening operational partnership with authorities, and providing crucial humanitarian support to affected populations.
Beyond bilateral action, Macron issued a stark challenge to the global community, stating, “No one can remain a spectator.” He called on all international partners to deepen their engagement, signalling that Nigeria’s security is now a pressing global priority.
This move elevates the conflict from a regional issue to one that demands an organised international response.
