Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been formally installed with the traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse of Warri Kingdom by Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.

The title, also known as Ugbọnẹ́, translates to “The Light of God” and was conferred during a “homecoming” visit to the palace. The honour specifically recognises the First Lady’s maternal roots, as her mother hails from the Itsekiri ethnic group in Delta State.
High-ranking dignitaries attended the ceremony, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
During the same visit, Senator Tinubu was also decorated with the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI), a distinguished recognition within the kingdom.
The installation celebrates the deep cultural ties between the First Lady and the ancient Warri Kingdom, highlighting the enduring significance of traditional institutions in contemporary Nigeria.
