In a powerful testament to perseverance and the transformative power of mentorship, celebrated DJ and entertainer Rachel Oluwabukola Martins, known globally as DJ Dimple Nipple, recently returned to the place where her technical journey began, The Kaywise Academy.
DJ Dimple returns to Kaywise Academy as an inspiration
Six years after graduating, she walked back through its doors as a celebrated guest speaker, sharing her story with a new generation of aspiring DJs. “It was one of those full-circle moments you never forget,” she reflected, describing the experience as a potent reminder of her growth from a hopeful graduate to an industry icon.
From Hardship to the Wheels of Steel
Her path to the DJ booth was forged in resilience. Orphaned at 15, Martins became the primary caretaker for her four younger siblings, a responsibility that forced her into the entertainment industry early to provide for her family. She began as a professional dancer at 17, becoming a regular at top Lagos nightclubs like G12 Beach and Club DNA Lagos, where her electrifying performances caught the eye of superstars like Wizkid and Tiwa Savage.
This visibility led to acting roles, most notably in Funke Akindele’s popular YouTube series “House Helps“. However, seeking greater creative control and a sustainable career, she made a pivotal decision to enrol in formal DJ training at Kaywise Academy with the academy’s founders, DJ Kaywise and DJ Kenzy.

Building a Unique Brand and Claiming Space
Today, DJ Dimple Nipple stands out as a multi-hyphenate force. She is an award-winning talent, having bagged the “DJ of the Year (Female)” award at the 2020 City People Awards. She confidently champions her unique identity—a tall, curvy woman who unapologetically owns her space in an industry and a society often fixated on specific body standards.
“I’m the best DJ in Nigeria… What makes me stand out is me. My vibe is different,” she has stated in the Sun Newspaper, noting that her signature style combines skilled mixing with dynamic dancing, a fusion that sets her apart.
Her success has taken her to over 15 countries for performances, though not without facing significant international hurdles, including a highly publicised and distressing ordeal with immigration authorities in the Philippines.
The Academy Behind the Success
Her story also highlights the institutional support reshaping Nigerian entertainment. Kaywise Academy, founded by veteran DJ Kaywise (Ayorinde Okiki), was born from a desire to provide the structure and professional training he felt was lacking in the industry. With over five branches and more than 600 graduates, the academy is dedicated to creating “the next line of generational DJs”.
For founder DJ Kaywise, seeing a graduate like Martins return as an inspiration is the mission fulfilled. “I tell students in my academy to be serious with their craft. I let them know that they can be bigger than me,” he said, emphasising his commitment to nurturing legacy over competition.
