Nigerian content creator Carter Efe has become the most-followed streamer in Africa on Twitch, a milestone achieved after a blockbuster livestream with Afrobeats superstar Davido.
Efe’s follower count surged by roughly 160,000 in just four days following the three-hour stream, pushing him past 400,000 followers and overtaking the previous record held by fellow Nigerian Shank Comics.
The broadcast itself made history, setting a new African record for the most-watched Twitch livestream with over 80,000 concurrent viewers and making Davido the first African streamer to exceed 20,000 subscribers on the platform.
The session was packed with viral moments. Davido actively championed Efe, securing him a brand ambassadorship with Martell during a live call and appealing directly to Twitch’s CEO for a lucrative deal. The stream also featured surprise appearances from celebrities like footballer Victor Osimhen and a humorous challenge from a fellow creator.
The event is hailed as a pivotal moment for Africa’s digital content scene, demonstrating how collaboration with top-tier artists can catapult creators to unprecedented visibility and success.
