Beijing has voiced unwavering backing for President Bola Tinubu’s government and warned foreign powers to stay out of Nigeria’s internal affairs after U.S. President Donald Trump floated the possibility of military action.

At a Tuesday briefing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning reaffirmed China’s relationship with Nigeria, calling the country a “comprehensive strategic partner,” and saying Beijing “firmly supports the Tinubu administration as it pursues development tailored to its national realities.”
Mao added that China rejects any efforts to cloak interference in another country under the banner of religion or human rights, and condemned threats of sanctions or military force. Her remarks were made in direct response to questions about Mr. Trump’s recent comments on the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
