“I just got to exist in multitudes on this album, and I allowed myself to try new things,” she told the cameras, framing Starrgirl—her third studio album, out August 14—as a deliberate sonic unravelling. The colour purple, she explained, has become her creative signature, a visual shorthand for the woman she’s becoming.
Then came the music. She tore through “Rush” and “Hot Body” before cracking open unreleased heat: the swirling “Tornado” and the braggadocious “Ms Paper.” The 16-song tracklist landed moments later, a constellation of heavyweights: Wizkid, Rema, Zayn, Leon Thomas, Kwn, Theodora, and Danny Ocean all make the cut.
Rihanna’s name didn’t appear on the features list, but Starr made it clear the dream collaboration is still being manifested. For now, she’s healing, she’s experimenting, and she’s swinging bigger than ever.
