(Nigeria 24) – A landmark exhibition celebrating a century of Nigerian popular music will feature a keynote lecture from two of the nation’s foremost cultural experts.
The Pop Music Centennial Installation, opening this month at The Centre For Memories in Enugu, will host a special lecture titled “Nigerian Popular Music: A Journey Travelled; The Road Ahead.” Music industry pioneer Obi Asika and award-winning historian-filmmaker Ezennia Emeka Keazor will deliver the talk.

Asika, founder of the influential Storm 360 label, is recognised as a key architect of the modern Afrobeats industry and frequently lectures on Nigeria’s musical evolution. Historian Keazor brings decades of research and documentary work on Nigerian socio-cultural history, having previously explored subjects from Highlife music legends to pivotal national events. Their combined perspectives promise a deep analysis of the past and future of the nation’s globally celebrated sound.
The month-long exhibition, a partnership between The Centre for Memories (Ncheta Ndigo) and the Nsibidi Institute, opens to the public on January 16, 2026.
It will feature photographs, artefacts, films, and sound installations, offering a comprehensive look at the genre’s evolution from its early 20th-century roots to its current worldwide dominance.
