In a whirlwind moment on Sunday, February 1, 2026, Tyla was informed of her Grammy win for her hit single “Push 2 Start” while she was literally in the lobby of the Crypto.com Arena.
Tyla learns of Grammy win moments before red carpet
The 24-year-old singer revealed that she was running approximately two minutes late for the pre-telecast Premiere Ceremony.
Because she was still in the lobby when her category was announced, she missed the opportunity to deliver an official acceptance speech on the Peacock Theatre stage.
Instead, she received the news mid-walk, surrounded by her team and family.
Stepping onto the red carpet shortly after, a stunned Tyla told Entertainment Tonight the win felt “insane” and “not real”.

This victory personifies her unique place in Grammy history as the first and only artist to win the Best African Music Performance category twice, following her inaugural win in 2024 for “Water.” She triumphed over a formidable field of nominees, including African heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr.
The singer celebrated the landmark achievement on the red carpet with her parents by her side.
