The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular 20-year-old TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, following a viral video of a dangerous crash he caused while live-streaming.
The incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. Police stated that Peller was seen driving recklessly while visibly distressed, leading to a crash that endangered other road users. Authorities allege his actions constituted “a deliberate attempt to commit suicide”.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and Peller will be charged in court. Separately, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has directed its Lagos command to prosecute him for traffic violations, including reckless driving and phone use while driving.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh issued a strong warning to social media influencers against using platforms to promote dangerous acts.
