Creative Director Chidi Sunday made a commanding runway debut with his brand, Threadking Studios, at the 5th edition of Uyo Fashion Week, themed “The Fusion,” on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Tropicana Event Centre in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Sunday unveiled Hills of Africa, a debut collection celebrating contemporary African fashion through vibrant colours, deep cultural heritage, and sustainable practices using indigenous fabrics and accessories.
The presentation seamlessly merged culture, personality, identity, and tribal tradition into modern, wearable style.
The collection was deeply emotional for the designer, drawing praise from attendees for elevating African culture on the runway. Each piece featured traditional Adire (indigo dye) and hand‑dyed prints reimagined into sleek, modern silhouettes – a hallmark of Threadking Studios’ commitment to conscious garment manufacturing.
Reflecting on the debut, Sunday said: “This is beyond styles. This is how we tell the African story through sustainable fashion. Excerpts from our debut at the @uyo_fashion_week. Every piece is an invitation to experience Africa.”
Threadking Studios, launched as a standalone label in early 2026, positions itself as an intentional, heritage‑driven contemporary African fashion brand. It rejects mass‑market conformism, curating high‑end, identity‑focused statements while promoting eco‑friendly, locally sourced materials.
The Uyo Fashion Week season also featured masterclasses, a retail mart, and the Arise 31 project, spotlighting designers from Akwa Ibom’s 31 local government areas.
