A Nigerian nurse based in the United States, Blessing, has gone viral after sharing her shock at an unexpected IRS withdrawal of over $11,000 from her bank account on the tax-filing deadline.

In a viral video, Blessing, a Family Nurse Practitioner and mother of eight, explained that she and her husband filed their taxes jointly and discovered they owed over $13,000. The couple provided their bank details, expecting to arrange a payment plan.

However, on April 15, the last day to file taxes, Blessing checked her account to transfer funds to savings and found that the IRS had withdrawn $11,000 without prior notice.

“I work like a dog—multiple jobs, from 7 AM to 7 PM,” she said. “I provided my bank details, but I thought they would inform me before taking the money. No multiple notices were sent.”

Blessing, who also received a $1,500 state refund that was applied toward the federal debt, said she had planned to discuss a payment plan with her husband upon his return. Instead, the sudden withdrawal left her blindsided.

Her story has sparked online debate about IRS collection practices and taxpayer awareness of automatic withdrawals.

The IRS typically issues notices before levying bank accounts, but Blessing insists she received none. Her video continues to gain traction among workers navigating complex tax obligations.
