Miss Universe Nigeria 2025, Onyinyechi Basil, surfaced at Yolo Island in Lagos this week, sharing a series of photos from a boat ride with a caption that said almost nothing and everything at once: “Nothing but ease.”
In the images, the queen sits on the cream-and-brown leather seating of a white motorboat, her sunglasses and gold bracelets catching the light at her wrist.
She wears large square-shaped sunglasses with pink-tinted lenses and gold frames. Her hair falls long and wavy, Black and loose over her shoulders.
Her outfit is a pink swim set: a string halter bikini top tied at the back, paired with a long, flowing wrap skirt in a pink, purple and Black floral tie-dye print. The sarong features a thigh-high slit and waist tie details, catching the breeze as the boat moves.
The boat cuts through river water, its wake trailing behind. Green trees and buildings line the riverbank in the distance under a cloudy, overcast sky. The look is relaxed and confident, a queen who knows the camera is watching and does not need to perform for it.
Basil won the Miss Universe Nigeria crown in late 2025 and represented Nigeria at the global Miss Universe 2025 pageant. Throughout 2026, she has kept a full schedule of duties, including appearances at the Silverbird Man of the Year Awards and co-hosting community initiatives such as the South-East Inter-State Mathematics Olympiad.
In interviews with TheGrio in January 2026 and Nigerian outlet QED, she spoke candidly about navigating a pageant season marked by organisational scandals and punishing schedules. She said the experience affirmed her self-confidence rather than shaking it.
