Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has launched a scathing attack on the organisers of the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) after being overlooked for her acclaimed role as Idia in the hit series “To Kill A Monkey,” despite the show receiving eight nominations.

Taking to x.com, the actress expressed her frustration, writing: “AMVCA smh. I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear: Nobody trended like Idia from TKAM last year. Her acting was 100. You guys can eat your award.”

While her co-star Bimbo Akintola earned a Best Lead Actress nomination, Afegbai was conspicuously absent from the Best Supporting Actress category.

The series, directed by Kemi Adetiba, emerged as one of the most nominated projects for the May 9 ceremony. Yet, Afegbai argued her performance was the most talked-about and culturally resonant.

“Nobody trended like Idia,” she insisted, signalling that her portrayal generated significant audience engagement and conversation throughout the year.

Despite the sharp criticism, Afegbai maintained she requires no external validation, stating her craft speaks for itself.

Her blunt rebuke—”You guys can eat your award”—has ignited debate among fans about the selection process and the recognition of breakout performances in Nollywood’s expanding creative landscape.
