The Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, marked his 56th birthday on Thursday, 24 July 2026, releasing a formal portrait and a message of gratitude.
The monarch, born on 24 July 1970, ascended the throne as the 15th Oniru of the Iru Kingdom in June 2020. He holds the title Abisogun II and bears the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger.
“Today, I celebrate the grace and mercy of the Almighty as I mark another year of life,” Oba Lawal said in a statement issued by the palace. “Birthdays offer an opportunity for reflection on the lessons learned, the responsibilities entrusted to us, the lives we are privileged to impact, and the enduring values that guide our journey.”
He prayed for continued wisdom, strength and peace to fulfil his purpose, and for prosperity across Iruland, Lagos and Nigeria.
The commemorative portrait shows the monarch in an all-white kaftan suit with a matching fedora hat, signature beaded walking staff, and woven leather loafers. 31and Pictures took the full-length studio photograph.

A palace aide confirmed that a private thanksgiving service was held, but no large public gathering was scheduled in line with the monarch’s preference for a quiet observance.
