Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, was conferred with the traditional chieftaincy title of “Oso Di Eme 1” of Imo State on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, during her official visit to the region.
The title, which translates to “she who supports her husband,” is a direct nod to her role as a partner to President Bola Tinubu in steering the affairs of the nation.
Her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Busola Kukoyi, celebrated the honour on X. “A worthy partner of her husband. As he’s working, she is working,” Kukoyi wrote.
And she arrived in style. The First Lady stunned in colourful traditional attire featuring APC party symbols and Nigerian flag motifs. She paired the look with a striking red headwrap, coral beads, and held a ceremonial fan inscribed “OSO DI EME” alongside a white horsetail flywhisk.
But this wasn’t just a title grab. Mrs Tinubu used the platform to empower 2,500 women in Imo State with cash grants and business equipment, including generators, grinding machines, and ovens. She also dropped a not-so-subtle political hint, appealing to South-East voters to re-elect her husband in 2027. “Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una, and Nigeria go better. I want to enjoy Nigeria at old age,” she said.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, who received her warmly, pledged the state’s full support for the President’s re-election, praising his performance and developmental interventions.
This honour follows her June 2026 conferment as “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu”—”Jewel of Empowerment”—recognising her women’s empowerment efforts across the nation. From Enugu to Imo, the First Lady is collecting titles and votes ahead of the January 2027 general elections.
