Aishah Ahmad, former Deputy Governor for Financial System Stability at the Central Bank of Nigeria, marked her 50th birthday on Monday with a reflective message celebrating the life she has built and the one still ahead.

In a post titled “Chapter 50,” Ahmad wrote that looking through photographs and revisiting memories had left her proud of the woman she sees.

“I know what has brought her joy, what she has carried and how much she has yet to discover,” she said. “A whole life has happened, and I am nowhere near done.”

Ahmad described a life of building, loving, leading, raising her sons, and starting over.

“Some things have unfolded beautifully. Others have asked more of me than I could have imagined. All of it belongs to my story,” she said.

She spoke of feeling more at home in herself, clearer about what matters, still curious and open to new directions.

She cited her Nupe and Ijesha roots, her family, the people she loves and the work she cares about, alongside music, laughter, creativity and dancing.

“I want to make room for all of it,” she said.

Ahmad said she was surrounded by her favourite people and her heart was full of gratitude to God for life, barakah, and love received and given.

“There will be time to tell the stories and trace the threads that have brought me here. For now, I am simply happy to be here: with so much more life to live,” she said.

She closed with a plan for the day: “Fifty. Let’s do it. Cake first. Then dancing.”

Ahmad served as Deputy Governor for Financial System Stability at the CBN from 2018 to 2023. She was the first woman to hold that role, overseeing structural regulatory reforms across digital banking, financial inclusion and platform-led finance.

After leaving public service, she founded Bridgforte Centre, a think tank and policy framework group focused on financial architectures and system trust.

She chairs the Graça Machel Trust Expert Leaders’ Group, leading network initiatives for female central bank governors and financial executives across Africa.

In Bida, Niger State, she was traditionally turbaned as the Soniya Asusu Nupe, Queen of the Treasury and Custodian of the Commonwealth, and launched the Amfani Zhiba Foundation to mentor young women and female economists.

She is a CFA charterholder and holds the national honour of OFR.
