Dangote, Davido take over Times Square with refinery campaign

2 Min Read

Aliko Dangote and Davido stood in the middle of Times Square on Tuesday night and watched Nigeria’s name light up New York.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s campaign appeared on the Nasdaq Tower, carrying a message in plain English: “Made in Nigeria. Built for the World.”

The billboard ran on 22 September 2026, part of the international push behind the refinery’s public share offer.

Dangote arrived with members of his executive team, including Halima Aliko Dangote, Fatima Aliko Dangote and Zouera Youssoufou. Davido joined him, and the pair’s link-up sent social media into overdrive.

Davido shared videos on his Instagram stories. The clips spread quickly, drawing reactions around national pride and African industrial capacity.

The advertisement supports the refinery’s ₦2.15 trillion public offering, roughly $1.6 billion. It opened on 14 September and closes on 13 October.

The company is offering 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 each. The minimum subscription is 10 shares, or ₦5,250, a deliberate move to bring ordinary Nigerians onto the register alongside institutions.

Dangote has marketed the offer as a “people’s IPO,” aiming to reach up to 10 million individual shareholders.

Proceeds will fund an expansion to lift crude processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day. The refinery currently runs at 650,000 barrels per day.

The Times Square placement follows a previous appearance of the refinery’s story on the same screens. No details on the campaign’s cost have been disclosed.

For many Nigerians watching from home, the image was the point: two of the country’s biggest names, standing in the world’s most famous intersection, watching their country’s name glow above them.
