A couple in Bulacan province held their wedding on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, inside a church flooded to hip level after weeks of southwest monsoon rains.
Leian Lieza Galang and Gilbert Chico exchanged vows at Saint John the Baptist Church, where floodwater covered the floor and rose past guests’ knees.
Parish officials had advised the couple to postpone the ceremony because of the rising water. The couple chose to proceed.
The bride had her gown altered to shorten the train so she could walk through the water. Videos showed her linking arms with her parents as they waded down the aisle. A young ring bearer walked through water that reached his waist.
Fewer than 15 guests attended. The area had lost electricity, so the parish used a portable speaker for the ceremony music.
The couple arrived at the church courtyard on a high-chassis motorised rickshaw to keep their clothing dry before entering the flooded building.
The event has drawn comparisons to a similar wedding in July 2025, when another Bulacan couple, Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar, proceeded with their ceremony in knee-deep water at Barasoain Church in Malolos during Typhoon Wipha.
Local officials and social media users have described the weddings as symbols of resilience and determination.
The newlyweds have not announced further plans, but the viral footage has continued to circulate widely across Philippine and international platforms.
