A proud first-generation Nigerian-American and Houston native, Ogwumike leverages her platform to celebrate her heritage and give back to the community.

The event, which was the first of its kind in the NBA when it launched in December 2023, is a celebration of Nigerian culture and the city’s large Nigerian diaspora. Ogwumike is passionate about using sports as a vehicle for empowerment.

Alongside the main event, she is actively involved in running a youth camp through her foundation, Queens of the Continent, to inspire the next generation of athletes and leaders.

Ogwumike, who also serves on the White House Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement, encourages community members to support or participate in these initiatives as part of her broader mission to create opportunities for young women and girls in sports.
