Burna Boy cracks AMAs Hip-Hop category with Gunna collab “wgft”

1 Min Read

Burna Boy is officially crashing the Hip-Hop category at the 2026 American Music Awards.

The Nigerian superstar has earned a nomination for Best Hip-Hop Song alongside Atlanta rapper Gunna for their collaboration “wgft.” The nod places him among heavyweights, including Drake (“NOKIA”), Cardi B (“ErrTime”), and Playboi Carti & The Weeknd (“Rather Lie”).

Burna Boy

Burna Boy is the only African artist nominated in a core Hip-Hop category this year — a major crossover moment. The AMAs graphic confirms his photo in the top row of contenders, recognising his featured-artist credit as a full nomination.

This marks Burna Boy’s second AMAs nomination of the night, alongside the previously announced Best Afrobeats Artist category, where he faces Wizkid, Rema, Tyla, and MOLIY.

Voting is now open at VoteAMAs.com and on Instagram @AMAs. The winners will be announced live on Monday, May 25, airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

With two nominations spanning Afrobeats and Hip-Hop, Burna Boy continues to solidify his status as the most versatile global export in the 2026 race.
