Ibrahim Mejama, a student from General Hassan College in Yelwa, Bauchi State, has successfully secured a bronze medal at the 2026 International Mathematics, Science and Engineering Fair (IMSEF), held from June 1 to June 5 in Cesme, Turkey.
Mejama won third place for his engineering innovation titled “Design and Construction of a Biogas Electric Stove Using a Remote Control.” He was the only student representing Nigeria at the fair, which featured participants from approximately 25 countries across Europe, Africa, and other regions.
The Coordinator of the Society for the Promotion of Science and Technology (SPST) shared details of the achievement via the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Following his performance, the Bauchi State Government promised him a full scholarship for his university education in recognition of his accomplishment.
“I am grateful to God and to everyone who supported me,” Mejama said. “This achievement is not just for me but for every young Nigerian who dares to dream of making a difference through science.”
Having qualified for a higher-level international competition, Mejama is now set to represent Nigeria at a global science event scheduled to take place in Brazil in October 2026.
