A U.S. high school senior made a prom entrance for the ages Saturday night, arriving by helicopter in a custom gown she flew to Nigeria to acquire — a viral moment that has since racked up millions of views.
Mariah Patrick, a Pahokee High School Class of 2026 student recognised as “Miss Trendsetter” and “Miss All American,” reportedly pooled approximately $3,000 with classmates to charter the helicopter. As the aircraft landed amid hype music, onlookers shouted, “She’s landing!”
But the journey began long before the helicopter touched down. Patrick, an American student, travelled to Nigeria to have her prom dress custom-made by a Nigerian designer — a glittering orange gown featuring cultural accents that paid homage to her heritage.
In the small agricultural town of Pahokee, known for its sugar cane fields and “Muck” football legacy, reactions have been sharply divided. Some praised the display of “black excellence” and flair, while others questioned the expense for a community facing economic challenges.

Patrick, who has been accepted to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), has not publicly responded to critics. Her senior portraits, captured by @createmomoments, have previously gone viral.
Pahokee High’s prom entrance will not be forgotten.
