Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya has met with Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman in Spain’s capital, delivering a custom chessboard and watching the newly-signed Atlético Madrid star in action.
Onakoya traveled specifically to gift the chessboard to Lookman, whom he proudly described as “Africa’s best.” The visit coincided with Lookman inviting the chess philanthropist to watch his match, during which the forward scored a “brilliant header.”
“Naija boys are up to the stars,” Onakoya said, expressing immense pride in the meeting between two Nigerians excelling on global stages.
The encounter comes shortly after Lookman’s high-profile February 2026 transfer from Atalanta to Atlético Madrid for approximately £30.3 million.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year has already made history, scoring on his Champions League debut for the Spanish club. He recently contributed four goals and four assists during Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
The meeting symbolises the rising global footprint of Nigerian talent across sports disciplines.
