Tragedy has struck the Nigerian music community as singer and former “The Voice Nigeria” contestant, Ifunanya Nwangene, has died after being bitten by a snake.

The incident occurred in her home in Abuja on January 31, 2026.

According to reports from a friend and an announcement from her choir, Amemuso Choir, Nwangene was asleep in her apartment when she was awoken by a sharp pain in her leg, which was later identified as a snake bite.

She was rushed to a local Federal Medical Center but tragically succumbed to the injury.

The Amemuso Choir, where Nwangene was a beloved soprano, confirmed her “painful demise” in a heartfelt tribute. “A rising star, Ifunanya was on the cusp of sharing her incredible talent with the world,” the choir’s announcement read. “Her voice and spirit will be deeply missed.”

Nwangene gained national recognition for her talent on the popular singing competition “The Voice Nigeria.” Her sudden death has prompted an outpouring of grief from friends, fans, and the wider entertainment industry, who remember her as a promising artist with a bright future.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by her family and choir soon.
