Pastor Akin Obafemi, senior pastor of the House of Miracles Evangelical Church, delivered a powerful Easter Sunday sermon titled “King of Kings,” emphasising the resurrection as the ultimate proof of Jesus Christ’s eternal kingship and the shared authority believers now possess.
Speaking to a full congregation, Pastor Obafemi contrasted the temporary reign of earthly rulers with the unlimited reign of Christ. Referencing historical kings of Mali and Ghana who were “buried with their gold,” he declared that Jesus is “the only king who cannot be held down by death,” having authority over sin, sickness, lack, and even the devil himself.
The sermon centered on four key scriptures. From Philippians 2:9-11, he highlighted that God has given Jesus “the name which is above every name.” Reading Colossians 1:16-17, he taught that all things—visible and invisible, thrones and powers—were created for Christ, assuring believers that “you have power over them.”
Using Matthew 28:18, Pastor Obafemi proclaimed that believers share in Jesus’ authority as “co-heirs with Christ,” capable of commanding change in their circumstances. He concluded with 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, declaring that every Christian has received “the ministry of reconciliation” and serves as an “ambassador for Christ.”
Urging members not to judge others but to “plead with them to come to Christ,” he announced two church-wide initiatives: a disciple-making effort for daily environments and a renewed focus on reconciliation outreach, promising God’s presence for those who obey.
