Veteran Nollywood icon Joke Silva has been announced as Head Judge for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, describing the role as both “a great honour and a deep sense of responsibility.”

Silva, whose career spans over three decades as an actress, director, and producer, will lead a distinguished panel of jurors drawn from across the continent’s film and television industry.

In her remarks, she emphasised the AMVCA’s evolution beyond an awards ceremony into a “cultural institution” that celebrates African creative excellence.

“This year marks a defining moment in the evolution of the awards,” Silva said, noting the inclusion of categories representing North and Central Africa. “From Lagos to Cairo, Nairobi to Kinshasa, Johannesburg to Dakar, African stories are being told with extraordinary imagination, authenticity, and craft.”

She stressed the jury’s commitment to fairness and credibility, stating their role “is not simply to reward visibility or popularity” but to honour “the mastery of storytelling that continues to elevate African cinema on the global stage.”

Silva added: “Africa’s stories matter. And at the AMVCA, we honour them in all their richness, diversity, and brilliance.”
