(FMG Wire) — Fifteen students from Grundtvig International Secondary School have returned from Singapore with 18 medals after competing at the 2026 Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC).
The competition ran from 17 to 21 July and drew 2,285 participants from 1,113 schools across 40 countries. The Grundtvig contingent secured three gold medals, two silver, ten bronze, and three honourable mentions.
Chijindu Agu led the team with two gold medals and one bronze in the Grade 7 category. He placed first in Nigeria and eighth globally. Chimgozirim Nwawulu won the third gold medal. Divine Eriobu and Akachukwu Onuigbo claimed silver, while Onuigbo added a bronze. Munachimso Ezeama, David Onwuegbuna and Favour Emeka-Edokwe each won two bronze medals. Destiny Okeke and Victor Chukwudi took one bronze apiece. Honourable mentions went to Harris Odimegwu Nsofor, Chinazo Nwankwo and Emeka-Edokwe.
The team qualified for the global finals after a strong showing at the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad earlier in the year.
Grundtvig International Secondary School, founded in 1998 by Dr Kachi E. Ozumba, is an independent boarding school in Oba, Anambra State. It follows Danish “Education for Life” principles, blending civic responsibility and practical skills with academic work.
School authorities described the result as further proof of the institution’s ability to produce globally competitive students. “We congratulate our students, their proud parents, and our dedicated staff on yet another remarkable international achievement,” the school said in a statement.
